So it’s been quite the day. I never expected waking up to the sounds of tires screaming for grip in the mud outside my bedroom window, as my dad tries to get the jeep out the yard. I’d fell asleep at about 5:30am this morning after spending the later part of the night mopping up water that was seeping through the back door. With lightening as bright as day, I was able to see outside in the pitch black as far as the eyes could see. It was certainly a surprise to see so much water everywhere in Antigua, from what would definitely be classified as the worst storm of the year, with over 7 inches of rain in some areas in less than 24hrs. They say rain is considered showers of blessings; well then hurricane Omar must be Jesus’ ally, because that was quite the blessing. Antigua only experienced the outer edges of hurricane Omar, but it certainly did a lot of water damage; destroying roads, properties and certainly interrupted people lives. In some places houses were completely submerge in water, leaving home owners to flee their homes. There are a few shelters open to accommodate home owners that are unable to stay at their homes tonight. However on a positive note there were no reported casualties, which is very much a surprise considering the extent of some of the property damages. I decided to take a quick tour around the island to see some of the damage; the pictures below will speak for its self.
